We do not eat at any Dos Reales locations any more. We gave them many chances-trust me. I could eat Mexican every day. It's in my DNA. But seriously, I'd rather drive across town or hit the grocery and cook at home. Here are a few reasons why, none of which are tied to a specific visit, but many visits to three different locations... Dry carnitas. I mean, DRY! Sopa (rice) = yucky. IJS! Service? Forget about it! I double checked with the wife. She confirms, "the food is just okay, but the service is terrible with a capital T!" The wife has spoken.

This is very easy to beat shitty service shitty drinks shifty food I asked for margaritas and they decided to serve them with out tequila. I asked them to make them doubles but that was too much. The steak was dry like their limes. 1 hour to finally get my food and drink. I filled up on chips and salsa with my free glass of water $70 was a fucking waste there. K'machos in Olathe is sooo much better margaritas down the street is much better!!!

Tons of yummy, authentic Mexican food for hardly any money. Yay! Servers are always pleasant, food comes out hot, and I always take home leftovers (and I can put away some food, so this means HUGE portions). I have eaten here for years with no complaints. They have great drink specials. You can get a giantoid beer for about $3 in a frosty mug. You can get a strong, tasty, big margarita for $5. One is definitely enough for me! As for food, my favorites are the chile verde pork burrito and the chile rellenos with salsa verde. Everything is delicious, though, and I think you will like whatever you order. Try it!

My colleague warned me ahead of time - it's sometimes good, and sometimes not so good. Maybe I had my hopes set too high, but I left very underwhelmed. The place was absolutely dead for a Friday night (I am used to the 1+ hour waits at Mi Ranchito), and we were seated quickly. The six of us ordered a couple pitchers of beer, which were on special on Friday night. $6.50 for domestic (INCLUDING Boulevard, which is awesome), and $7.75 for Mexican (meaning Pacifico, Modelo Especial, and XX). A pretty good deal if you ask me. We got a third pitcher later ;) Now on to the food. Chips and salsa were fine, but I'm not a huge fan. The entrees were hit or miss. I got the "chipotle burrito", which was promised to be spicy. It wasn't, in the slightest. To be fair, the habanero hot sauce they have on the table has a heck of a kick, so that helped. My burrito was just...odd. It tasted more like Italian food than Mexican food - no spice, tomato paste on the top, etc. Rice and beans were pedestrian and average. My wife, however, had a couple of hard shell tacos and they were quite tasty...I should have ordered those, as they were better and cheaper. So, while I certainly won't avoid Dos Reales, I wasn't drawn to come back. If I end up back here someday, so be it...but I won't actively seek it out.

My husband and I had a really good meal. The margaritas were delicious! Frozen margaritas were freshly made, not out of a machine.

Being the San Francisco food snob that I be . . . I hardly ever expect food in other parts of the country to be any good. Yeah, sue me, I am an SF snob, after all. In any case, friends took me to eat here while visiting. Well, one certainly can't say that they don't have a large menu. I almost went into a seizure with the colors and number of possibilities on the menu. I ordered some kind of enchilada with meat on it. Very tasty. Why is it that refried beans always taste better in a restaurant? Service was a tad bit slow, but that didn't bother me too much. Whenever going to an ethic restaurant, I always see if there is a high match between the ethnic food and number of customers of they particular ethnic group. Thumbs up!

Went there for late lunch & there were small black bugs in my chips & food. Mgr brought me over a contract from a new pest control company they are using & said they are switching back to the old company b/c its not working. Did I really need to know that? Not sure, but can't go back. It was an awful experience.

DOS Reales is the best Mexican restaurant I've found in the KC Metro so far. You get free chips with both mild and hot salsa, and the hot salsa is actually fairly hot. I hate the places where you get stuck with only mild salsa. The margaritas have been good. The menu has a really large selection of items. I've had some of the nachos (there are at least 5 different kinds), tamales, enchiladas, everything has been good. In fact, if I am craving nachos, this is the place to go. The service has been decent, though I've had some weird mistakes occur. They double charged my credit card once, but luckily I was standing at the register, and corrected the cashier right away when the amount was way off. My girlfriend got the Nachos w/ Mild Cheese, Beef and Beans, but the nachos came out sans beans, but obviously that's not too big of a deal. It's kind of strange that most of the nachos say "w/ mild cheese." Anyway. The place reminds of the restaurants in Southern California, San Diego and OC specifically.

Decent Mexican food. I was not blown away but if you are jonsing for some tacos, this place will suffice. The chips and salsa were good. Two types of salsa, both seemed homemade. One chunky, the other smooth. Same heat in both. The carne asada was pretty tough but good. Beans and rice average. Chicken enchiladas, average. Service, OK. To me the best part was the prices and very large portions. My carne asada was giant. I was there on a Friday and they had a beer special going, 60 ounce pitcher of Tecate for $6.50. Holy crap that's over 5 beers for a little over 6 bucks! On a scale of 1 to 10, I'd give this placed a solid 5.

A number of years ago I had a bad experience there but I'm always willing to give a restaurant another try. I went back a few weeks ago. Vast improvement. I ordered a chicken burrito. BEST burrito I ever tasted. Excellent rice. Good service. Plenty of food. I left a stuffed happy Gringo...

Eh. Dos Reales, dos estrellas. First, I think if you have to state your authenticity on your signage, what you're selling is probably the exact opposite of what you're advertising. I think you can tell a Mexican restaurant is authentic in one of two ways: 1. It does not say "authentic" on the sign. 2. Lingua or head is present as a meat option somewhere on the menu. Thus, Dos Reales does not qualify as "authentic" Mexican in my book. Off my soapbox and on to the food. I had a chimichanga, which I figure is pretty safe in this environment. Bonus here - everyone knows that when you're eating a chimi, the best part is the burrito butt. (Speaking of - remind me to go to the gym tomorrow.) This chimi is not one large chimi, it's two small ones. And you know what that means?!? Not two, but FOUR burrito butts. Rock. Otherwise, though, I was fairly unimpressed. Service was pretty good, but if you're in the mood for tasty Mexican-American, hit up Mi Ranchito. Or Jose Pepper's, for the love - I'd probably recommend that over this place. Sorry, Dos Reales.

Called ahead for a party of 9 and when we arrived they said they didn't have room. Didn't offer any sort of recourse other than come back another time. WTF. In the past the service has been sketchy and the food no better than average. Fuck this place. If you want good, inexpensive Mexican food go to Chapalas in Olathe.

One of the nicest Mexican places on the Kansas side of the city. Good food, good prices, and great specials.

Maybe it isn't super authentic. It's true, they don't have cabeza or lengua, or even a rotating spit of al pastor being hacked at by some dude with a wicked looking machete. But I'm willing to look past their lack of things like tacos de ojos and fried chapulines, because they have tasty carnitas. Tender, juicy, and crispy where they're supposed to be. Beans? Rice? Meh. Chips? Salsa? Don't care. Just give me some of that slow-braised, perfectly seasoned pork butt, slapped into fork tender chunks and blasted under a broiler until crispy. Admittedly, these are not the best carnitas in KC. They're not really worth making a special trip across town for or anything, but they are definitely worth checking out if you're in the area and have a hungering for tasty pig parts.

My wife and I used to go to this location becasue it was superior to the other one. The customer service is terrible and the food has declined. The last 3 or 4 times we've been in, it's taken forever to get out or order in and then get our food. The last time we went in, the server gave us the wrong bill. When we told the server, she insisted it was ours with a very disgruntled demeanor. This went on for a couple minutes before she realized her mistake and corrected it. When we left, we saw our server sitting at the bar watching tv. No wonder it took so long to get our order in.

Los Dos is the bomb for quality Mexican, especially the lunch menu where it's impossible to go wrong. Tamales are unique and have a light sweet flavor. Burritos are all good (many opt for the Burrito Cheesesteak). Chips and salsa are just okay. Wait staff is always prompt and very professional. Similar to La Mesa for those that miss the Metcalf location. Only complaint (if you call it that) is when the joint switched from Coke to Pepsi last year.

we went to Dos Reales for dinner, and it had been a few years since I had been there. I recall really liking it before, but was massively underwhelmed this time around. The service was prompt, the place seemed clean and run by competent individuals, but the food was not something I would return for. I had the "burrito poblano", which is essentially a chicken burrito with mole sauce, and the most typical, boring, beans and rice imaginable. My wife had the steak fajita-tacos. To be honest, I'm really tired of these canned refried beans and pink overcooked spanish rice that get served at mexican places. There's not even a real alternative provided, and it just gets old. If you want something a step above Carlos O'Kelly's, then Dos Reales is for you. If you want something better, you'll have to go elsewhere.

okay so my dad of all people called me up to do lunch at this place and I was like, "QUE??? COMO???" He said, "Yeah let's go they have changed". I trust my dad so much that I went and he had the carne asada platio and I just had the carne asada tacos. I was impressed to say the least. They have finally gotten away from the fake Mexican Chef Boyardee canned wannabe Mexican food and got real. I was happy about that and now I look forward to going back there. Orale...

They serve great stuff here. I wandered into this place one day, knowing nothing about it. I was pleasantly surprised to find the green chile burrito as their lunch special and ordered it. It wasn't quite the New Mexico green chile I was used to, but it wasn't bad. A soft, flour tortilla stuffed with large chunks of tender pork and cheese, smothered with chile verde. Served with rice and beans, this Thursday special is tasty and reasonably priced. On a recent visit, I decided to change it up and ordered the burrito poblano, a flour tortilla stuffed with chicken and smothered with their mole sauce. The mole was complex and flavorful, and nicely complimented the chicken. Somewhat rich, and not something you would want to eat every day, but I really liked it. I also love the fact they have red and green El Yucateo on the table, so can spice it up all you want.

Our 1st visit was last Tuesday - we thoroughly enjoyed the buy one get one free tacos - an amazing amount of food for an incredible price. Our server, Jesus, was attentive and top-notch! Thank you for the fun family dinner!

I went with a group of ten people for dinner last week. The service was good the prices are good. I had 2 Marguerites and felt zero. If I drink margarita's I definitely want a tequila buzz. The chips where old and rancid. The salsa was cheap commercial grade crap. I had two fish tacos which where fair, not good, fair. No one in the group really said anything good or bad about the food & drinks. The atmosphere was OK. I would not go back. I would say the food is boring and the drinks are weak.

this place is super yummy, inexpensive, and they treat everyone well. i especially like this restaurant because they treat my child very nicely. i am very careful about where i take my young son because i want others to enjoy their dining experience (we dont all get to enjoy eating out often). this is the only place i dont feel like my kid is a burden, they are so nice to him. and he behaves very well there because he is happy,

I always enjoy eating the food here but the service is awful! don't bother asking for extra guacamole or a side of cheese because you wont get it. I always enjoy there margaritas but once again don't expect them to bring you a glass of water as well. Although i hate the service i always come back because i love the food! i really dont mind the bean and rice sides because the food portions are more then enough as it is.

This place is cheap mexican food--nothing classy, nothing super authentic but it's good! I usually order a couple items al a carte. The al a carte soft tacos are gigantic and you will be full with 2 (they are about 2 bucks each). Check it out for a super cheap mexican dinner, but if you want the real deal--head to SW Blvd.

Dos Reales offeres solid reasonably authentic Mexican food. I have been here probably over 10 times in the last few years. They have both mild and hot salsa that they bring you right at the beginning without you having to make a special request. That being said the last time we were there, I had carnitas that were overcooked. Also, the last time I had fajitas, the usaul overwhelming portion was just adequate. I don't want to dowrate them for it, because my other visits have been pretty good with tasty food and short waiting times. The neighborhood this restaurant is in, does not have many commerical businesses, so there is not overflow from other restaurants that overcrowds this one. I will be back!

I Love Mexican food. For years I had been searching for a Mexican restaurant that I could really fall in love with. I found many good ones, but it wasn't until I walked into Dos Reales that I found my south-of-the-boarder-heaven. For both value and quality, I have yet to find anything approaching it. Over the past 11 years, I have tried almost everything on their extensive menu, and I haven't found anything that was less than very good. A good place to start would be their "Super Special Dinners," which give you huge portions and variety at an incredible $9.50. The number 1, my favorite of the three, gives you a tamale, a taco, a chalupa, a chili relleno, an enchilada, rice and beans!--easily enough food for two. Picking blindly from the menu will, however, garner nothing but winners. Special mention, though, should be made of the Chili Rellenos, chili Colorado, Burrito Rojo, fajita cassadias and their chicken choices. (When there is a choice, pick chicken over beef. Their beef is excellent--and they offer ground or shredded--but their chicken is extraordinary.) Their refried beans are to die for, but they offer black beans as an alternative which are equally as good. The service is extremely fast and efficient--so much so, that you should not order immediately. Instead relax with a drink and their warm and wonderful corn chips and salsa which comes to your table before you have a chance to sit down. If you are really big into ambiance, than you might knock down their rating one-half point. Even so, for my money, it's one of the best dining experiences in the KC area.

I've been here several times in the past three years. I'm not sure I would call it "authentic", but if you're lookin for the basic Mexican-American fare, this place will do you well. The service is friendly, the restaurant is clean, and the prices are in the $10-$15/person range. The menu has LOTS of choices, and you can pick from several available meats, or a few veggie meals. The queso is tasty, the salsa is decent, though rather mild for my tastes. Overall, solid and repeatable, but nothing to get over-excited about.

Came here on a Wednesday night with a couple of friends from work. They weren't too busy, so we were seated right away and it didn't feel over crowded, but they weren't dead either. The waitress brought out chips and 2 kinds of salsa, one a typical style restaurant salsa and the other was more like a pico de gallo. I didn't particularly enjoy either of the salsa options, and they were in pretty small dishes as well (especially for a group of 4). We also ordered their cheese dip. It was okay, but nothing spectacular. It was just white and simple. It was also in the same small dish as the salsa. The Dos Reales margaritas on the other hand were OUTSTANDING. They were on the slightly sweet side, and had just the right blend of sweet, tangy & boozy. One was enough for me. I ordered the #1 combo which was 1 taco, 2 enchiladas and a side of rice. Their combos were on special for $6.99, and the chicken was a $1 upcharge (isntead of groud beef) I really enjoyed the rice. I thought it had both good texture and was very flavorful. It was the kind that was a yellowish orange, and stuck together in some spots with an almost crispness to it. Their taco was just okay. They use a shredded chicken that is soaked in some kind of red sauce that has a sweeter taste to it. The enchiladas were better than the taco. They seemed to have the same sauce, but there was just something about the enchilada that was more flavorful than the taco. The waitress didn't speak much to us, and seemed to 'eye' us a bit after our meal, but as I said the restaurant wasn't busy and there certainly weren't any people waiting for our table. The hostess sat at the table next to us to eat her meal. I guess she was on break? All in all, the thing I would come back for is the margaritas!

My favorite Mexican restaurant in JoCo. I have had the combination platter many times and everything on it is great. Normally I order the shrimp chimi and it is fantastic. The seasoning on the shrimp is delicious. Most Mexican restaurants have bland boring rice, but the rice here is perfect. Great flavor. They beans are always delicious. The best is starting off with the chips. Always warm and the salsa is full of flavor. The hotter salsa has a good kick to it, but not too much. You have to order the cheese dip with your chips. The absolute best! I often take people here when visiting from out of town and no one is ever disappointed in the food. The service is fantastic here. They are not over bearing, but very attentive keeping your glasses full and making sure you have everything you need. Some of the best service at any restaurant in town.

This is restaurant has some really yum food with a pretty good ambiance. It is built over a large area, you have out door sitting as well. I sat inside the restaurant which gives you a feel of sitting in a Mexican market place. The chips warm and light. I order a veggie burrito and dos reales margarita. i really liked the portion size as it was just enough for me, otherwise in mexican restaurants they give so much of food that you feel stuffed like a turkey on thanks givings, In short, The food was good and margarita was perfect. I felt that they were under staffed as the guy who was waiting upon my table was running around in bewilderment and couldn't pay much attention to me.

I hadn't eaten at Dos Reales in a very long time, but a friend and I decided to take advantage of a coupon she had for dinner before driving downtown to the Kauffman Center. When I saw that they had chicken in mole I immediately ordered it -- it's one of my favorite dishes when it's made well and Dos Reales's version is quite good: Puebla-style and with just a hint of sweetness (as it should be). Mole poblano may contain chocolate as one of its many ingredients, but it's NOT supposed to be a sweet sauce! At Dos Reales the dish is made with chunks of boneless chicken breast meat, which makes it a bit easier to eat than trying to carve the meat off the bone when it's covered in mole. I did manage to get the sauce on my shirt, nonetheless! For as long as I've been eating on this planet, you'd think I could manage to eat without being sloppy by now! Service was quick and pleasant and our meal was very reasonably priced. This is a good choice, especially if you're in the neighborhood of Shawnee-Mission Medical Center and looking for a good place to eat!

DOS Reales has an excellent meal special where you can try at least 8 things for about $7.99 or so. They brought me out 2 plates full of all sorts of Mexican cuisine. Unfortunately, I was sick and can't comment on the specific taste of the dishes. I spent most of the night pouring extra hot sauce onto their chips trying to clear away my sinuses. The atmosphere was a bit too chain- like to be considered especially authentic and the bathroom was disgusting, But the service was prompt and attentive. I'd say it's worth at least one try so you can make your own opinion.

One of the best Mexican restaurants in KC is hidden in OP. My old job was right by this place and we ate here almost weekly. Acapulco was always my standard here, but the carnitas and green chile burrito are also very good. Reasonably priced and lots of good lunch specials.

Another solid meal here during a busy lunch hour on a Saturday. 17 bucks for two specials and a beer? That's a great deal! Will definitely go back soon for the Habañera (no burning peppers on this dish). It was outstanding.

Tried the Chile Colorado since I fell in love with dish at Rivera's in Omaha, NE. This dish tonight was decent but lacked spice and flavor. The special was fajitas so tried some steak from another plate on the table and it was pretty good. Salsa is good but prefer the pico of the two styles provided. Overall decent Mexican food.

I always get the Fajita Chimichanga with chicken, and it's pretty darned hard to beat. Great chips and salsa, too. I've never had any issues at all with the service, though I've noticed a number of other reviewers have been dissatisfied. Maybe it's simply because I'm assertive? Not sure. If I need something I'll simply flag my server down. This has always led to satisfying results there. Not that I've often found this necessary, mind you.

We ordered the Acapulco Bay and Chicken Flautas. Both amazing, would definitely recommend them. Super quick service! Only took like 5-7 minutes to get our food after ordering. Also, my boyfriend loves hot sauce and has tried everything under the sun. He loves the chile habanero hot sauce they had at the tables. My favorite Mexican restaurant in the area!

Dos Reales servers are pretty unenthusiastic and seem irritated every single time we've been there. I'm giving it 2 stars because of the consistently grouchy servers. It tends to make the experience awkward almost every time. This is where we go when we feel like we've frequented Mi Ranchito too much! I will say their food is delicious. I ordered the steak fajitas last time. Magnifico! Now let's discuss the chips, salsa, and dips. Chips nice hot and fresh. Salsa yummy. But the servers act like they're trying to conserve by not offering you endless chips and keeping your salsa filled. It's strange and they do it every single time. The queso dip sucks only order it if you have a valpak coupon. And their guacamole. The flavor is blah. Half the portion Mi Ranchito gives you for the same price. Yummy alternative to Mi Rancheapo as we call it. Not as generous and more expensive.

I do not eat at this location - and now I know why. My family (from out of town) and I made a reservation. We were there for a little under an hour. I ordered the combination plate, #8 which is three tacos with beans and rice. I ordered chicke tacos. The tacos were disgusting. Soggy beyond belief and the taste was not pleasing. The rice and beans were very good, though. The service was not very good. Our waiter was decent, enthusiastic, but very busy. Not his fault - kudos to him. However, about fifteen minutes in to our food arriving, there was a line of 3-5 servers/waiters just standing by our table staring at us. We split the check three ways - and When one person paid their ticket, they told us we had to leave. It was very rude and upsetting. I don't think I'll be returning to this Dos Reales location again. It is so off-putting whenever the staff is extremely pushy and obsessive. Gawking almost. They were not horribly busy - but the staff was slacking (Maybe because they were too busy staring us down) which made our waiter run around like a chicken with its head cut off.

A go to authentic Mexican restaurant. I can practice my Spanish with the bilingual waiters. Great service. Awesome food. And a nice authentic Mexican vibe that is rare in other Mexican restaurants. The guacamole is AMAZING. A definite must go.

I had lunch there today and it was not very good. There was nothing special or extra savory in my meal (beef enchilada and stuffed pepper). The enchilada was basically ground beef rolled up in a corn tortilla with some soupy (canned tasting) enchilada sauce poured over it. There was so much sauce poured over the pepper that it drowned out the flavor of the pepper. I won't be back.

I've been coming to both Dos locations for 7-8 years. While my favorite dish and drink changes, the tasty food and excellent service are always the same. The atmosphere is authentic and the 75th st location is filled with art you'll love to look at during the short 5-10 minutes you wait for your food. The Shawnee Mission Parkway location looks like a little village with a fountain in the center and it has the most magnificent carved table. The chips and salsa are always fresh. I recommend the choritacos and margarita! If you take kids, there are plenty of kid friendly menu items and a treat at the end.

Every time my spouse and I come here we get prompt service. The food is ALWAYS good. We order the streak fajitas for two which is $16 and you get a ton of food. Servers are always friendly and I NEVER have to ask for a refill for my drinks or salsa/chips. One of my favorite places.

The hostess sat at the table next to us to eat her meal. I guess she was on break? All in all, the thing I would come back for is the margaritas!

Have been coming to Dos since they opened and finally got around to signing up for Yelp to review. The food is consistently good, the servers are friendly and I've never had any issues with anything. There may be other places that are nicer or serve a more exotic menu, but Dos is pretty tough to beat in KC.

My family used to love this place. We dined here several times a month. They have new menus, HIGHER prices, and ELIMINATED their daily food specials. To many changes all at once. I could deal with the higher prices if they still offered daily food specials. They don't, my family will not be back. Very sad! I'll be taking my business elsewhere when I get a craving for Mexican food. Hope all the changes and higher prices were worth it.

I keep trying to find a good Mexican joint in KC. I've been in Arizona, Oklahoma, & Texas for the last 5 years so I guess I'm spoiled. You used to be able to get that same quality Mexican food down on Southwest Blvd pre-1990's. You know, when Ponak's used to be a little dive bar you wouldn't set foot in after dark? This place is OK. I got sick after eating here the first time. I had the green chile burrito. I don't know if that was it or just bad timing on a stomach illness so I thought I'd try again. I'll let you know tomorrow;-) The service is a little lacking. I had to ask for everything...filling my water, extra napkins, and they never did give us any more chips or salsa after we finished with what they gave us. The chips and salsa are just adequate, nothing special. Even Chili's has better. I had a lunch dish called The Acapulco, I think. (Their website has expired or I could say for sure.) It's grilled beef, chicken, & shrimp with grilled onions with a side of white rice and some tortillas. Doesn't that sound a lot like Fajitas? Well, it was, just not on a sizziling skillet. Next time maybe I'll order the Fajitas and see if there's any difference. All the meat was tender and well seasoned. White rice was kind of a downer. I'll keep looking for a really good Mexican place but this one is close to work so I'll probably be back.

I've had these guys cater an event and we eat dinner there quite often. The restaurant has a fun atmosphere with sports showing on TV's. Catering went well, the manager is a hard worker and you can tell he's there to take care of everything. One thing that's always right (catering or just dinner at the restaurant) is the Margarita!

Let me start by saying i absolutely love this place... I would pick this over mi ranchito every day of the week. However, last time i went they had roaches. I saw a roach crawling on the wall behind my fiance. When i let my server know, he said "yea.... were having a problem right now." That's all he said. So gross.

I just ate here last night. I've never had great service at this place, but thought I would give it another chance. I ordered the el grande. This consists of two burritos. I ate one and brought one home. One is beef and one chicken. As I'm eating the chicken burrito for lunch today, I bite into something hard. I look down and it's a chicken bone. It isnt a small one either. I am disgusted and appalled. This place has definitely lost my service. I'm tempted to call and give them the big news. Um, just an FYI, I like to enjoy my food without animal bones in it! If you like bones in your food, this is the place to go!

For the life of me, I can't understand why anybody likes this place. The service is mediocre at best, the food is sub par and the atmosphere reminds me of a waiting room. I've eaten here at least a dozen times, not by choice. It's either meeting friends here, or convenient to Shawnee Mission Medical Center for a late night bite after visiting somebody. Well, this will be my last. I'm not kidding, I get sick nearly every time I eat here. The beef in the tacos reminds me of wet dog food and it's loaded with grease. So much so that the crunchy shell is mush by the time it arrives at your table. The chicken is slightly more tolerable, but I've found bones in the meat a few times. All white meat breast? I doubt that. Do yourself a favor, bypass this place at any chance you get. The food is honestly not fit for animals, yet alone human beings.

The food is good, but the service is great. That pretty much sums up Dos Reales, and explains how they've been able to expand to their other locations. Nothing on the menu is the best in town, but nothing is bad either. But the staff are always friendly, attentive, and quick with service. Get a pitcher of margaritas and try their fajitas....you won't be disappointed!

I am going to make a very bold statement: Dos Reales is the best Mexican in Johnson County. My husband and I went for lunch on 1/27/12 and were, as always, completely satisfied with our meal and service. On Fridays lunch combinations are $5.75. Their chips and salsa are second to none and, if you're not careful you could gorge yourself on those alone. Servers are constantly refilling and baskets and salsa, so you have to let them know when you have had your fill. I ordered the steak fajitas burrito. This dish is served with rice or beans, I choose beans. The fajita steak, well-seasoned with Mexican spices, was cut into bite sized chunks. The burrito came loaded with meat with just enough tomato, onion and pepper to add variety in every bite. The whole meal was covered (just the right amount, not drenched) with cheese. My husband ordered the lunch beef enchilada combination with rice and beans and added a pork tamale on the side. He was pleased with the meal and found the portions to be more than ample. Our food was delicious and arrived at the table steaming hot. The server was attentive. The restaurant is clean and welcoming. I highly recommend Dos Reales.

Really a 3.5 place, but I'm a generous man. The one things you can't deny about Dos Reales is that they know who they are, and they know how to do it well. Is there anything on the menu that I think is the best in KC...nope. Is there anything there that I've ever been disappointed with...nope. It's just one of those places you know you can count on, and there's a great deal of comfort in that for me. While the food is a 3.5 star, the service has always been 5 star for me. The staff is always attentive, the chip basket is never empty, and I've never had any problems with the check. They appear to run a tight ship, and it shows. Be sure to check out the lunch menu if are there during the appropriate hours. You'll really be surprised by the variety and number of dishes available at the smaller portion price.

The staff is on their game. Not always the most sociable, but they get the job done with accuracy. I am a HUGE fan of cheladas and get one every time that I visit. The food is very good and consistent, and I have never had an issue and I go there quite a bit. My favorite for lunch is the cubano sandwich (5 stars, 3 compared to Miami cuban sandwiches), and for dinner I love the chori tacos with both steak and chicken. If you are adventurous, try a chelada sometime - you wont be disappointed.

Good food, the burrito I had tasted very good Portion size - AWESOME, the thing was HUGE!!! couldn't finish it all and i'm a big eater Service - sort of average, nothing to rave about, i wouldn't give a 5 star with this level of service usually, but the Burrito was so good and so large I'm ignoring the very average service level. price isn't bad, My burrito was under $9 and it was more than i could eat and tasted great.

Their recent 33% price hike and shrinking portions has made their merely good food less desirable in my opinion. My Carne Asada that was only $9.50 a few weeks ago was $12.50 tonight and had almost 50% less meat and twice as much beans and rice as usual. Who knew beans and rice could be so expensive. I'm going back to my old haunts where I don't have to pay a takeout fee.

Great food always and excellent service too! This place is amazing. I've been coming here regularly since 2002 and I can't think of too many Mexican joints that rival it. This is a great spot for lunch because they're very quick and you'll never have to worry about running late. There can sometimes be a small wait at the lunch hour so being a little early or late would be good. Make sure and try their white cheese dip!

Cheap beer, good food, great service. No complaints ever and I have been a lot. If it were not for a couple of other places in town this would be the best, so #3 on my list. Always worth visiting.

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

(2)Aaron G.
okay so my dad of all people called me up to do lunch at this place and I was like, "QUE???

The steak was dry like their limes. 1 hour to finally get my food and drink. I filled up on chips and salsa with my free glass of water $70 was a fucking waste there. K'machos in Olathe is sooo much better margaritas down the street is much better!!!

I've eaten at other locations before and have had a mixture of experiences. We REALLY enjoyed our food this time. We were there at a weird time of day, so our server was not around for refills much, but at least the food was great.
(3)Sara D.

(5)Michael P.
Another solid meal here during a busy lunch hour on a Saturday. 17 bucks for two specials and a beer? That's a great deal! Will definitely go back soon for the Habañera (no burning peppers on this dish). It was outstanding.
(4)Daniel Z.
(3)Diana L.
(4)Drew M.
Cheap beer, good food, great service. No complaints ever and I have been a lot. If it were not for a couple of other places in town this would be the best, so #3 on my list. Always worth visiting.
(4)Hanah H.
(5)Ashley H.

(2)Justin B.
A go to authentic Mexican restaurant. I can practice my Spanish with the bilingual waiters. Great service. Awesome food. And a nice authentic Mexican vibe that is rare in other Mexican restaurants. The guacamole is AMAZING. A definite must go.
(5)Mary E.
(2)Korinne A.
(4)Jane R.
Every time my spouse and I come here we get prompt service. The food is ALWAYS good. We order the streak fajitas for two which is $16 and you get a ton of food. Servers are always friendly and I NEVER have to ask for a refill for my drinks or salsa/chips. One of my favorite places.
(5)Christina H.
(3)Eric B.
Have been coming to Dos since they opened and finally got around to signing up for Yelp to review. The food is consistently good, the servers are friendly and I've never had any issues with anything. There may be other places that are nicer or serve a more exotic menu, but Dos is pretty tough to beat in KC.
(4)Sterling H.

(5)jackie w.
Let me start by saying i absolutely love this place... I would pick this over mi ranchito every day of the week. However, last time i went they had roaches. I saw a roach crawling on the wall behind my fiance. When i let my server know, he said "yea.... were having a problem right now." That's all he said. So gross.
(3)Lisa L.
(1)Dev V.
(2)Joey O.
The food is horrible. Do Not Eat here if your from CA or anywhere else that has good Mexican food or you will be disappointed..
(1)Dawn R.
(4)Wayland W.
Best Mexican food in Overland Park. They never disappoint.
(5)Amy C.
(5)Heath F.
(4)Chef C.
(4)Rob D.
(5)Dennis F.
(3)Bryan T.
(4)Mike D.
not a bad midwest mexican place. I've had better but I've had much worse.
(3)Samantha R.
Normally the food and service are both great. My last trip in was about a week ago, our server was very friendly and very attentive despite having a large party he was also serving.
(4)Chad B.
Two words...burrito bravo.
(4)Erin M.
Oo! What's great here: Recently added vegetarian items, really good service (from CUTE guys), and you'll probably wait, oh, 7 minutes for your food. My veggie options were once limited to a mushroom quesadilla, but that section of the menu has expanded. My veggie quesadilla had mushrooms, onions and red and green peppers all sauteed and wrapped in a spinach tortilla. And then smothered in queso, because who likes being healthy? My roommate had some kind of dish with pork on it, which she proclaimed her favorite of this place. Go here!
(4)The M.
Very good food and great value for the price. Good service as well.

My husband and I had a really good meal. The margaritas were delicious! Frozen margaritas were freshly made, not out of a machine.

Have been coming to Dos since they opened and finally got around to signing up for Yelp to review. The food is consistently good, the servers are friendly and I've never had any issues with anything. There may be other places that are nicer or serve a more exotic menu, but Dos is pretty tough to beat in KC.

(5)Dennis F.

(4)Mike D.
not a bad midwest mexican place. I've had better but I've had much worse.

Let me start by saying i absolutely love this place... I would pick this over mi ranchito every day of the week. However, last time i went they had roaches. I saw a roach crawling on the wall behind my fiance. When i let my server know, he said "yea.... were having a problem right now." That's all he said. So gross.

(2)Joey O.
The food is horrible. Do Not Eat here if your from CA or anywhere else that has good Mexican food or you will be disappointed..
(1)Dawn R.
(4)Wayland W.
Best Mexican food in Overland Park. They never disappoint.
(5)Samantha R.

(1)Ryan A.

I would say the food is boring and the drinks are weak.

this place is super yummy, inexpensive, and they treat everyone well. i especially like this restaurant because they treat my child very nicely. i am very careful about where i take my young son because i want others to enjoy their dining experience (we dont all get to enjoy eating out often). this is the only place i dont feel like my kid is a burden, they are so nice to him. and he behaves very well there because he is happy,
(5)Beckie T.
(3)Shannon L.
(4)Nick W.
One of the nicest Mexican places on the Kansas side of the city. Good food, good prices, and great specials.
(5)Bruce R.
Thumbs up!
(4)Emily O.

Burrito Chipotle is my favorite!
(4)Brian B.
(3)Robert H.
(4)Mike M.
(3)Joel M.
awesome salsa, strong margaritas

(5)Keith K.
